I find that it isn't too challenging and I win 98% of the time, which I like before settling in. This is a great game for teaching kids strategy.just like the board game.

There is also an option to have the computer randomly set the ships for you. The nice thing is that you can keep the configuration from the last game and launch a new game quickly. There are a half dozen flags to choose from, and you set your ships on the grid before playing. You can change your viewing position in a 360 degree circle. There is a grid in each corner to see what squares are open and the graphics are good. You can toggle on/off the fleet to keep track of what you've sunk. It does have a lot of similarities to the board game. Relaxing, not overly challenging, and fairly quick.
